In November of 2000 I went on an "O Solo Mio" tour. My son, Chris, accompanied me. It was his first trip outside the USA. We flew from San Francisco to Shanghai, with a brief stopover in Tokyo. From Shanghai, we drove south to Wuhan where we boarded the "Princess Elaine" riverboat for five days sailing upstream on the Yangtze, disembarking in Chongquin. From there we flew to Xian where we visited the Terra Cotta Warriors museum. Our trip ended in Beijing where we spent three days exploring the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Ming Tombs, Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven, and other areas of interest.

We stayed in this Holiday Inn in "downtown" Shanghai
One of our first outings was to the Yuyuan Gardens in the older part of Shanghai.
Son, Chris, watching me and not paying attention to our guide.
This little girl was actually posing for her parents but I happened to have my camera ready.
These unusual chairs are made from gnarled tree roots.
The famous skyline across the Huangpu River as seen from "The Bund" waterfront in Shanghai. There is a revolving restaurant in the top sphere of that unusual TV tower.

We were told that it may take two or three years or more to finish one of these silk rugs.
